22 K-Hornet Load?

I'm looking for a 22K-Hornet load out of a 24 inch barrel with 30gr Barnes Varmit Granades or 30gr Calhoun Double Hollow Points? Loading in Winchester Brass....

I have a pretty extensive library of data I have collected on the .22 K Hornet cartridge and just looked through it and Loaddata.com and I cannot find anything specific on the 30 gr bullets and Calhouns website did not help either. Nothing for K Hornet or basic Hornet and 30 grain bullets.

Are you interested in data for slightly heavier bullets?

Hornady has a lot of data on 35 grain bullets.

You might contact Calhoun directly for more information. I have used his heavier bullets on prairie dogs and have been very happy with them. He gave me some data years ago on other bulletts over the phone.

I am using 13.0 grains of Lil Gun in most of my K Hornet loads and am happy with it. Doesn't seem to matter much which specific bullet or primer but I am not looking for the ultimate in accuracy, just a practical load for shooting all day. The Speer manual takes ths powder up to 14.0 grains max for their 33 grain TNT for the basic hornet, they do not list the K hornet, and that is a compressed load with a velocity of 3093. They also recommend a magnum pistol primer.

Speer 33 gr bullet data

h110 12.4 to 12.8 velocity 3198 to 3229
296 12.4 to 12.8 3054 to 3217
aa num 9 10.2 to 10.8

I somehow posted the above before I was ready. 10 thumbs I guess.

lil gun 13.5 to 14.0 all compressed 3068 to 3093
2400 11.0 to 11.5 2953 to 2985
viht n110 10.0 to 10.6 compressed 2879 to 2947

These loads are all for the basic hornet not the K Hornet. My knowledge is that the K Hornet will give you roughly 200 fps more velocity with the same loads and you can get more powder in the case if you want to push it.

Be Safe.

Hope this helps.

I just double checked the Speer manual. They specifically recommend a CCI 500 primer. I have purchased some magnum pistol primers to try out in the K Hornet. They may not be physically strong enough for a larger, higher pressure cartridge. One big reason I bought them was that I could not find any other primers for sale for months and I think they will work fine.

Again, be safe and good luck.

I would like to know how your loads work out.

Thanks,

TJ

I shoot 40gr V-Max in my K-Hornet and use
12.5gr H110 @3187fps
12.5gr WW296 with mag primer @ 3031fps

you want to use a lighter bullet so you could try these loads but start 10% lower and be careful

TAC is WAY TOO SLOW for a K-Hornet case, it's almost too slow for the .223, unless you favor the heavier bullets.
