WOW!! Eye pop-pen Hydraulic shock I guess. I use mostly the 35 gr and 40 gr Hornady Vmax in both of my 221 Fireballs and they do about the same thing to a prairie dog, pieces and parts everywhere. If I hit a pup they are almost completely vaporized. The 221 Fireball is one of my favorite rounds, right up there with my two 22 K-hornet for short range shots. This next week I'm going to be in Southern Colorado for 5 days and these four guns will be my main morning guns, before the wind comes up in the afternoon. The plague hit the area I was going in South Dakota, so we're shooting in Colorado, lot of dogs, I hope.

That's a nice looking rifle.

Later!!!!

Will

Nice, what speed are you running in that Fireball? Was going to do a PD hunt over the weekend, but it just will not quit raining.

Fantastic ! I have always found groundhogs hard to kill with a small rifle. Looks like the Fireball is more than adequate.

Happy Hunting.

Hey guys, I nominate these pictures as the most impressive shot on a groundhog ever to appear on this forum or any other place I have seen. And, I am an old groundhog shooter.

What do you think?

thanks jon....

that means alot coming from a guru and hog killer such as yourself.

i do alot of bullet testing. i like a bullet that leaves no exit. as most of my hunting spots are quite rural. i am of course very careful of what direction im shooting. but no exit hole means no chance of down range accidents.

will be doing most of my hog huntin with varmint grenades in my .221 and my .204s this summer. but not in my hornet. it dont like them at all. will stick with the nosler 35 gr. leadfree in that. very accurate. and they really pop too!

Great shot and pictures. I've never shot a 221 FB but hope to get one someday. Thanks for posting.

That's about my best 15.3 LiL'Gun at 1.865 OAL.  I just pick-up some 36 grain Barnes Varmint Grenades I'm going to load up this week.  Should do about the same with the same load.

In thousands of rounds of testing including the rimfires my results show the no tox bullets are very accurate, but they are not very impressive killers at 250 yds. or so due to loss of energy because of the light for caliber weights. I will use them when I am told I have to but IMHO (V-Maxes etc. leaded versions) are far better bullets,if total bullet destruction is critical.
