Fireforming 22-250 Ackley Improved

I am a new member.  Need sources of information about fireforming 22-250 brass (factory loads and handloads) into Ackley Improved. Also, loading data. My rifle is Ruger 77MKII. Any suggestions?  Thank you.

First, WELCOME.

I sold my 22-250 AI but it's real easy to go from 22-250 Rem to 22-250 AI, put a 22-250 Rem in and shoot a prairie dog or groundhog and you got it.

On the internet there are several places to get starting loads. I started with the Max load for the 22-250 Rem for my 22-250 AI, worked fine.

I went away from the 22-250 AI because I shoot 200 to 300 rounds a day and that is a lot of powder. The PPC and BR rounds do a better job for me, less powder and the same or better ballistics. I still have a 22-250 Rem custom to sell, the last large rifle primer rifle I have. To each his own!

Will

My 6mm BR is a 1-10 twist, Rem 700, left handed.  By the way I'm right handed, but works fine on a bench or out the truck window where allowed.  I like the 58 Vmax, Nosler 55 Ballistic tip, and Speer 70 TNT HP.  Nowhere near the powder or recoil of the .243 or 6mm Rem with only about 200 fps difference in speed.  There are times I shoot 300 rounds a day and I like the reduction in recoil, plus I have a muzzle break.

I deal with wind a lot in the West and the 6mm hold the wind a lot better than the 22 cals, even tho I have several 22 cal varmint guns.

To get 22-250 ballistics I use a 22 BR, almost the same thing with less recoil and powder.

Will had good advice. I just got done fireforming a bunch of brass myself. I used the top 22-250 Rem load and loaded the bullet to touch the rifling. I did have some issues with shoulders spliting. I annealed the rest of my brass before fireforming and had no further issues.

If you happen to know what issues they were you can order a back issue and have it sent to you. You might be able to get just the article thru a google search and a little luck as well. A call to customer service desk would be another option, normally they are very helpful with back issues.

Good luck
