Z-max bullets

Anyone know if these are just V-Max bullets with a green tip? Are they cheaper because they are only available in quantities of 500 or are they actually a different bullet than a V-Max?

They are the same and an excellent value. Tough to find because people are snapping them up.

As mentioned they are the same bullet, just with the Zombie yellow tip. They are a promotional item and will only be available, from what I have been told, for a period of time, then gone. As a sales promotion they are on the market, til then, at a reduced cost. I have been shooting them, alongwith the v-max and they shoot exactly the same, for me. I like both, but really like the cost of the z-max, of course, as it is easier on the old budget.  Bill Kbiggrin

I bought 1K of these to load for my Son who likes "something different". They are a better buy than the regular V-max.

I think Nosler has a equal to the z-max in their varmageddon bullet. I also believe the z-max will stop being offered, so we had better work up loads with the Nosler, tipped or hp, your choice. I will be working with the tipped in 204 and 223 calibers. So far they go for around $13.80 a 100.  Bill K biggrin

They are hard to get... Have you tried the old flashlight/paper bag setup?

Are you old enough to remember that one?no As a sidenote, one of my sites (Custom Reloading Tools) is no longer handling the Hornadys. They are going to the Nosler-Varmageddon bullets. So I will be using them, when my 1000 or so of the x-max are gone..  Bill Kbiggrin

Has anyone visited the Hornady plant in Grand Island? I heard they were selling odds and blems there and since I might be close(within 100 miles anyway) this summer, thought I'd stop by.

Mobuck, I was at the Hornady plant last August when I returned from Camp Perry. They have a few in the drawers in the main lobby but you can take a tour of the plant and see the bullet making press's forming bullets. It was good to see the rolls of copper sheets going into the jacket press punching out copper disks. What amazed me was watching a large 12"x 24" solid hulk of lead being forced into the bullet core dies. Has to be in the thousands of tons range to do that. At the end of the tour you will walk right next to a wall that has to be 15' long with 5-6 shelves FULL of bullets that are not good for commercial sales. I believe the person I was there with was paying just at $9.00 per hundred in boxes for these. Definently a trip you will need to take and will always enjoy. Not sure what else they have for sale there but I purchaced the Hornady Manual#8 at Camp Perry for $25.00+ and at the plant the manual was $21.00. I seem to be two steps behind at times. Rich
